Band of Horses - No One’s Gonna Love You
Cease to Begin (2007)

Band of Horses’ first two albums, Everything All the Time and Cease to Begin generally bore me as a whole, but the tracks that stand out on these albums are, well, really good. Rarely does a band come along where I enjoy their singles more than anything else, but that is the case here. This song is my favorite by them. Killer vocals, great lyrics, and sets a really emotional atmosphere if played at the right moment.

We are the ever-living ghost of what once was

Modest Mouse - Doin’ the Cockroach

It’s songs like these that cement Modest Mouse as one of my favorite bands of all-time. I can never decide whether or not The Moon & Antarctica or The Lonesome Crowded West is my favorite album by them. I feel like the sound they captured on this album was their best. Sometimes raw and angry, sometimes subtle and mellow - but always powerful, in sound and lyrics. I’m so glad I got a tattoo for “Heart Cooks Brain”, the second track on this album. I still wish they didn’t stick the almost 11 minute track, “Truckers Atlas”, way before the end of the album. 11 minutes is just a little much for the spot that it’s in. Or maybe that’s the point?

Oh my mind is all made up
So I’ll have to sleep in it
